In the busy frantic and uncertain world we all live in we all strive to create a sense of peace and calm in our homes now. For improved mental wellbeing and to create a space where we can also relax after a long day.
Read on to find new ways you can achieve this feeling in your home.
Calming colours for your scheme.
Colours from nature can evoke feelings of calm. Green tones, natural beiges paired with white. Imagine the colours in the forest scene above, capturing these tones in your scheme will engender a sense of calm. Or perhaps go for more of a coastal theme with shades of blues and sandy colours. To evoke the feeling of calm and quiet at the coastline early on a Summer's morning. Using a simple colour palette will add to the quiet feeling.
Textures.
Think of the textures you would like to incorporate in your scheme. In terms of fabric go for soft smooth fabrics like velvet in neutral tones and linens or similar textures in modern equivalents suitable for hard wearing upholstery.
Mix and match textures to evoke a feeling of nature. A rich comforting velvet paired with a leather chair or footstool. Textures extend to your choice of window dressings too, choose sheer voiles to diffuse light and pair with heavier curtains-add blackout lining to create true darkness in bedrooms and aid sleep.
Bringing a sense of calm to your bedroom.
Create the same feeling of calm by extending your scheme to your bedroom.
Choose natural bedlinen in white or plain colours to keep the neutral quiet theme. Use lavender sprays or scents to evoke the wonderful calming sensations.
Switch off devices.
Try to restrict or reduce your use of electronic devices in all your newly created spaces. Today we are all very much connected to these devices but they in turn can disconnect us from nature and make it impossible to fully relax. Perhaps leave out the television in your living space or at least hide it if there are protests!
For your bedroom try to restrict mobile and smaller item use. You will be better able to relax if you are away from social media for at least the time you spend in your bedroom.
